In the late 1800s, a Japanese Ambassador is ordained by the Japanese Emperor to travel through the US on a fortified train to deliver a priceless golden sword to the American president. A small battalion of US troops is in charge of protecting the train from packs of bandits and wild Indians roaming the desert. The train is quickly ambushed by a pair of outlaws, Link Stuart (Charles Bronson, Death Wish) and his friend Gauche (Alain Delon, Un Flic, The Red Circle), with the help of Mexican bandits who quickly defeat the US Army Battalion. After fighting the group of samurais guarding the ambassador led by Kuroda (ToshirO Mifune, Seven Samurai, Rashomon), Gauche and Link manage to steal the precious sword, but Link learns the hard way about his partner’s trustworthiness when Gauche double-crosses him and takes off with the booty. Since both Kuroda and Link have a grudge against Gauche, they warily join forces to track him down and return the sword to its rightful owner. Along the way, they have to deal with cultural conflict, Indian attacks, and encounters with beautiful women, played by Capucine and Ursula Andress.
