Simon is an actor suffering from more than mere stage fright. He is terrified of failure. In his third year at the Acting Conservatory he falls in love with Marie - the best in their class. His acting starts to improve. But she leaves him for a film role in Africa. His work starts to go to pieces. Simon travels to the desert. His presence further convinces Marie that she is falling in love with the film's director, Ferrand. Simon returns to the Conservatory and flops in the Final Examinations. At the Venice Film Festival, Marie is the discovery of the year. But she is dropped by Ferrand. He returns to his wife and his one true love...
